Mary Lynn Barnard, 91, entered her heavenly home Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., April 11, 1920, to Douglas and Gertrude Tilson, she grew up in Knoxville and Johnson City where she attended cosmetology school.
During World War II, she worked in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where she also learned to fly airplanes. She married Clifford C. Barnard in June 1952.
Barnard moved to Florida in 1970 with her family, settling in Boca Grande for 16 years. Following the death of her husband, she relocated to nearby Rotonda, where she pursued her love of crafts and listening to gospel music. In 2010, she moved to Heritage Healthcare in Venice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; son, Edward Barnard; and daughter, Marjorie Wyrick.
She is survived by son, Nick Barnard of Port Charlotte; daughter, Debra Spivey and husband Randy of Bradenton: 12 grandchildren, Amber Gassman, Todd Wyrick, Jonathan Dhein, Amy McNamara, Rebecca Austerman, Jeffrey Spivey, Nikki Barnard, Katie Waggoner, Sarah Barnard, Joseph Spivey, Jordan Barnard, and Whitney Barnard; and 12 great-grandchildren.
