The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Gun Range off Airport Road east of Punta Gorda was closed May 19-21 so EnRange Environmental Services of Miami crews could dig the lead out of the mounds of dirt at the range.
"EnRange removed 6,700 pounds of lead from the dirt berm," said Training Lt. Brian Harrison. The firm returns about every three years to de-lead the gun range berm."
OSHA regulates the business and FDLE inspects the gun range periodically in the interest of safety.
