The public is invited to a special presentation of the Juvenile Tarpon Restoration and Preservation Project at Wildflower Preserve at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Boca Grande Community Center.
The project developed in partnership with Mote Marine Laboratory and Lemon Bay Conservancy under the direction of Aaron Adams, renowned Mote tarpon and snook scientist, assisted by JoEllen King, graduate research scientist, University of Florida.

The initial phase of the project - installation of a tag antenna in Lemon Creek to monitor juvenile tarpon tagged within the Wildflower Preserve - was completed in August 2012.
Data from the monthly tagging and monitoring sessions that followed show a growing number of juvenile tarpon developing within the protected environment of the Preserve.
These exciting results indicate the restoration measures now under way are working to improve our backwater tidal pond nursery habitat areas.
This is wonderful news for the tarpon, recreational anglers, Boca Grande and our surrounding communities.
Lemon Bay Conservancy understands that protecting the tarpon population, which is crucial to the economy of our area as well as our environment, is a very important mission.
