Bacon's Furniture & Design of Sarasota is closing its 70,000-square-foot showcase store at 7557 S. Tamiami Trail after a building sale resulted in a lost lease.
The company will sell off all inventory in this location beginning today.
The company has been serving the Sarasota and Port Charlotte area for more than 30 years. It continues to operate two o stores: Bacon's Outdoor Living, 7522 Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, and Bacon's Furniture, 17701 Murdock Circle in Port Charlotte.
President Bill Bacon's parents founded the Port Charlotte store in 1977. Bacon and wife and partner, Lynn, bought the business from his parents, now deceased, in the early 1980s.
Bacon's is known for high-quality furnishings at affordable prices.
Everything at the South Tamiami Trail store in Sarasota will be sold before the closing. Bacon's Furniture & Design features premier furniture brands, including Drexel Heritage, Century, Sherrill, Marge Carson, Flexsteel, Lane Venture, Braxton Culler, American Drew, Howard Miller, Lexington, Bradington-Young, Thomasville, Stanley and Hooker Furniture.
It also has a wide assortment of area rugs, including Gabbeh, Heriz, Isfahan, Kashan, Kerman, Nain, Persian, Shiraz and Tabriz designs.
The multimillion-dollar collection of fine furniture will be offered at discounts up to 65 percent.
Over the years, the Bacon family has been very involved in civic activities, including local Habitat for Humanity projects as well as the American Cancer Society and Young Life. Bill Bacon also has served as president of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce and Charlotte Harbor Rotary Club and on the board of Florida Shores Bank. After Hurricane Charlie in 2004, the company fed more than 100 people a day while the area was without power and other services.
